Review on Intel Unlocked Skylake Processor BX80662I76700K by Wiktor Kosiorek ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The quality is at the level, I am satisfied with everything.

Switched from Core2Quad Q9450 2.66 Ghz and 820 million transistors gave out 2.89 gflops per core. (Memory was DDR3 1333. Assembled in August 2022.) The 6700K has 1.35 billion transistors, hyper-threading gives eight logical cores by default. Setting it up for constant overclocking will make sense in 5 years. I don’t chase constant innovations, I rarely buy iron and with a margin. The current system was assembled according to an American recipe. Disks, controller and sound are from the old system. Glad compatibility and continuity. Mainboard: Asus Z170-A CPU: Core i7 6700K RAM: 2x Crucial (Micron) DDR4-2133 8GB 15-15-15-36 (no better timings yet) Cooler: Gelid Tranquillo Rev3 Controller: Adaptec Ultra320 SCSI 29320LPE HDD: 2x Fujitsu MBA3073NP SCSI Disk 74GB 15000rpm HDD: Seagate ST3146855LW SCSI Disk 136GB 15000rpm HDD: 2x WesternDigital WD3000HLFS SATA 300GB 10000rpm ODD: Pioneer BluRay SATA BDR-S08J (Japan) Sound: ESI Juli@ PSU: Seasonic S12G 750W OS: Windows Server 2022 R2 (server analog 8.1) In the future, you can put a solid-state Samsung 850 Pro 256GB or something much faster on the M.2 interface. They already exist on the market, it's a matter of mass character and price. I'm also waiting for 16GB memory on one bar. This is not yet physically available in the United States. Processor pulls up to 64GB By the way, the SCSI interface also worked faster and gives out all its 320 MB/sec. It looks like the old system had a bottleneck on the rather mediocre Intel motherboard and the old bandwidth specifications. Ideally, there should be a Swedish case from Fractal Design, but for now I am very satisfied with the old CoolerMaster with a cool portable handle.

Pros
  • The flagship model is the maximum for this microarchitecture. Very low heat dissipation, does not create stuffiness in the room. Heavy queries work noticeably faster in SQL Server 2022 DBMS, as well as ColdFusion, Java and Visual Studio compilers for C# and C++. Much better CPU-level parallelism performance compared to Core2Quad. The new Z170 chipset and DDR4 memory take things to the next level with a good multi-year headroom. And this is the maximum processor of the Skylake line. It's great that he came out first. I bought on the American Amazon with some other components out of principle. Shipping prices are the same. Brought home by DHL. The processor allows you to save on the graphics card, which I took advantage of.
Cons
  • Still, Intel was greedy and put fewer transistors into this 14 nm flagship model than into the 4790K at 22 nm. As a result, we have only 5.37 gflops per core versus 5.43.
