Review on GE WB02X10956 Authentic OEM Charcoal Filter for GE Microwave Ovens by Dwayne Calhoun

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Overpriced and not as good as the one that comes with your microwave

I have a 6 month old model PVM9215SK3SS GE microwave. A few days ago the filter change light came on. I bought a couple of these carbon filters, one to replace my current filter now and another for next time. I pulled out the old filter and compared it to the new one. On the old filter, the activated carbon material is thick and completely opaque, but on the new filter, the material is thin enough that I can easily see through it. It is obvious that the quality of this "original spare part" differs from the original. -1 star for that. My second thought is that these filters are overpriced at a list price of $15.91 each. I bought mine on sale for $13.79 each. However, I don't think they cost more than $8. -1 star for that. Obviously the maker of aftermarket products like this expects to capitalize on that. This type of filter is probably not even a necessity in the microwave for most people. After pulling the old filter out of my microwave, I examined and cleaned it of several different parts. I don't use my microwave that intensively, a few times a week at most. I'm not sure if the filter really needs to be replaced now. I put it back in place and reinstalled the light. I'll be using it for 6 more months then I'll try one of those cheap replacement filters I bought.
