Revainrating 5 out of 5

A good choice for a game projector.

Main Games Played: Rocket League (PC) Overwatch (PC), Street Fighter V (Local, PS4), BlazBlue (Local, PS4), Tales of Berseria (PS4). Netflix setup (PS4): My projector is set up on a coffee table using a wired HDMI connection. It sits just under 4 feet from the screen and delivers a very good 84-inch picture. As with any expensive projector, you need a screen. It was first projected onto a textured wall while I waited for my screen to arrive. The picture was good, but not outstanding. After my screen arrived, the picture was great right away. Response Time: I always keep the projector in game mode for all my games. While you can buy a wireless HDMI adapter from Optoma, this will have a negative impact on response time. This is true for all wireless HDMI adapters and is especially true if you live in an apartment or in an area with high interference. That being said, I personally don't notice any lag in any of my games. This includes two of my current fighting games that I play, SFV and BB Central Fiction. I've played some previous screens where I was missing combos and had to adapt. However, I play this projector in the same way as my Samsung UE590 monitor, which has a 1ms response time. Please note that I am not a professional and my perception may not notice a 15ms difference. Image: Excellent. In gaming mode, the picture is consistently dazzling in this price range. It's not 4k but I was impressed by how good it looked compared to my previous plasma from c. 2008 and my current Samsung monitor. Slightly different images, colors, tones etc. But overall 5/5. Actually I'm not sure about the lifespan of the lightbulb in game mode. Is there a random number between 5000 and 10,000 hours in the description? Brightness: With a lot of ambient light, you can still see the picture quite well, as you would expect from 3,000 lumens. But as with any projector, take out the ambient light. By the way, stay away from economy mode. I tried using it with Netflix with no ambient lighting. It is matte, washed out and flickers slightly non-stop. Noise: The picture is best in game mode and the fan turns on. But even in a quiet room, the projector's speaker still cancels out fan noise at volume one, which is good. In other modes like Economy, the fan is barely audible. However, do not use the economy mode. Sound: It's there if you need it. And it can get pretty loud with absolutely zero bass. I mainly use headphones, so I can't go into more detail here. Problems: I had to return my first projector for two reasons: 1) The focus was uneven on the screen. It will only focus on part of the screen at a time. If the left and center were sharp, the right was blurry. If the right and center were clear, the left would be blurry. 2) The top of the image has been curved. While the left, right, and bottom edges were perfectly aligned, the top center of the image would appear about 2 inches above the screen, and the top left and right edges would appear about 1 inch below the screen if an 84-inch screen. Luckily, Revane traded it for another of the same unit. Focus has been fixed, but a small amount of top bend is still present. My screen is covered in black velvet around the edges (absorbs light) so it doesn't stand out unless you're looking for it. Heat: It generates a decent amount of heat, but not as much as my plasma TV. Playing time: I played a maximum of 7 hours at a time without any problems. Just make sure you set your sleep timer a little longer. Once the sleep timer starts counting down I can't figure out how to get the projector to cancel it without turning the projector off and on again. Overall: Absolutely.
