Review on πŸ”’ StarTech.com M.2 SSD Aluminum Enclosure - USB 3.0 (5Gbps) with UASP - M.2 NGFF SATA (B Key & B+M Key) - Portable External Enclosure (SM2NGFFMBU33) by Brendan Thorpe

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is a TRUE SATA USB with a UASP Enclosure

BEWARE of other SATA USB Enclosures from other manufacturers. Almost everyone SAYS they support UASP communication. But if you plug in a capable SSD, the trim command WILL NOT BE RECOGNIZED in either Windows or Linux! ONLY StarTech and JMicron make packages with ASMedia interfaces that pass trim through UASP. If your SSD in the enclosure shows up as a removable disk on the Windows optimization screen, the enclosure is NOT implementing full UASP! The StarTech enclosure allows Windows and (with configuration) Linux to see the external SSD as an SSD, so trimming is done correctly. This difference explains why there is often a price difference between this suitcase and other, less functional suitcases. I know because I bought one of the cheaper brands before. If I could, I would revise my review of this other case to downvote it because it doesn't fully support UASP like this StarTech case does.
