Needed to replace a cheap, faulty enclosure

StarTech.com External M.2 SATA SSD Enclosure - USB 3.0 with UASP I'll buy the SSD. This was a failure as the soldering to attach the USB 3 connector to the board inside the case failed within 3 months. I have purchased other Startech products and have never been disappointed so I purchased this case. I've had it for 2 months, I use it a lot, no problems. I use an SSD to back up important files and transfer files between my two laptops and sometimes use this drive as a file source for fileโ€ฆ

This is a TRUE SATA USB with a UASP Enclosure

BEWARE of other SATA USB Enclosures from other manufacturers. Almost everyone SAYS they support UASP communication. But if you plug in a capable SSD, the trim command WILL NOT BE RECOGNIZED in either Windows or Linux! ONLY StarTech and JMicron make packages with ASMedia interfaces that pass trim through UASP. If your SSD in the enclosure shows up as a removable disk on the Windows optimization screen, the enclosure is NOT implementing full UASP! The StarTech enclosure allows Windows and (withโ€ฆ

Did exactly what I needed. I had a 256GB SATA m.2 SSD (Micron 1100) that originally came with the laptop, into which I inserted a 500GB Samsung Evo 960 m.2 NVMe PCIe drive. It just stood still and I thought about getting an SD card for another laptop. but SD wouldn't be fast enough (writing) for what I need. It's smaller than an external pre-purchased drive and, for the drive inside, it's much faster than any SD card. Using this with a Dell i5379-5893GRY-PUS laptop works great (assuming I'mโ€ฆ

DOA; returned for refund

I don't know what the chances are but I was hoping I'd get a good one. I will try another provider and hope for the best. Hit and miss these things, sure. Production quality control is marginal at best. For those interested in details, I already have a couple of formatted, known good M.2 SATA SSDs (Samsung 850 EVO 120GB M.2 3.5" SSD (MZ-N5E120BW) and Transcend info. SSD M.2 SSD 512GB SATA III 6Gb/s MTS400 42mm M.2 (TS512GMTS400). This case didn't work with any of them (this is on a Macbook Proโ€ฆ

Converts my win10+Linux-Mint dual boot to Windows ONLY

I bought a Samsung 950-EVO-500GB NVMe to install my new Leneovo Flex 5 which comes with 250GB NVMe was delivered. I installed Linux Mint 20 dual boot for about two weeks and waited for this useless thing to show up. I didn't even bother to activate win10 since I've been using Linux for years. When this Startech came along, I installed a Samsung EVO in a Flex 5 running Mint 20.0 on a fresh 500GB NVMe. I then installed a 256GB NVMe into this external drive enclosure. I plugged it into the USB 3โ€ฆ

As of June 2017, this is the only review of dual SATA M.2 enclosures. sights below. It comes with two USB cables, a Type-A to Micro USB 3.0 and a Type-C to Micro USB 3.0. When I tested the drive on my USB 3.0 (USB 3.1 Gen 1) port, there was no problem transferring a 10GB video file to and from the drive. When I tested the drive on my USB 3.1 Gen 2 port, it got stuck in the middle of transferring the same 10GB video file. I solved it by changing the cable to a USB Type-C cable and connector. I'm
