K&N are quality filters, but they probably aren't the best for most drivers. On some engines, the filter fits very tightly or very unusually. This is where a 1" nut on a jerry can saves a lot of time. If you change your own oil and have a couple of cars like mine with an odd layout, the $3-$4 extra is worth it. Then you don't have to pay 4 keep various mugs and filter lanyards in your tool box, just use a cheap 1" combo filter. The filter on my 6.0 liter Silverado is recessed, so the strap wrench is useless if the filter is tight. With K&N I can release it quickly with a 1" combo. Same with my Subaru 3.6. The filter is located under the guard plate lengthways about 1/2" from the sensor. Rather than having to remove the plate to Using the belt, I can thread a 1" combination through the service port and just remove the filter. Note. Do not use the reservoir nut to overtighten the oil filter. 1/4 turn is usually sufficient.
