In response to all the people who say you don't need an expensive wax iron or just use an old steam iron, I have to say DON'T LISTEN TO YOU. I once started using an old steam iron and thought it was awful. They are just too big and the holes keep dripping wax as they hang down. Then I bought a very cheap iron without a good metal plate on the bottom and used it for several years but couldn't get a good thin coat. wax with it I just didn't have enough heat to heat the board and apply a thin layer of wax. That's great. It has a nice aluminum plate on the underside and if you run it along the board you'll notice a nice thin layer of wax left behind. You'll finish the job a lot quicker and with a lot less wasted wax to scrape off.
