Doesn't work on my Mac.

I got this adapter to connect a USB 2.0 external hard drive to my new iMac which only has USB-C ports but it doesn't work on my 2021 iMac. I double checked the disk on two different Macs and it works as long as I don't use an adapter. The problem is that my new Mac only has USB-C ports, so the adapter I bought didn't quite live up to my expectations.
