Review on Toshiba SD2800 Player Component Output by Maalik Harris

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Update: Just retired but still going strong!

This is an update of my previous review (December 2002). I bought this DVD player in May 2002, almost 2 years ago. I just removed it from ebay (moved to a Toshiba SD-H400 DVD/Tivo unit). But I was sorry that this one was gone! It has always worked flawlessly for me. It played every disc I put in including, despite my prior checking, DVD+R and +RW discs I burned on my PC (didn't test DVD-R or -RW). I've never had a single problem with the player and actually miss its Enhanced Black Level feature (which my new $400 progressive monster doesn't have!). EBL really added to the cinematic experience. I know they are no longer available in the retail market but felt the need to pay tribute to a device that has served me well over the past 2 years. If you need a second DVD player, or a new one, or a first one, and you can find one of these new ones, I recommend you go for it. The newest isn't always the best and the SD2800 does a great job!
