There are a lot of bad reviews about this product and it's definitely down to quality control, but if you're persistent (or lucky) you might find a good one! My first purchase was about a year ago and I was hesitant to buy it due to the mixed reviews but I knew that if it didn't work I could just send it back so I gave it a try. To my surprise, I got a good one! It's been running for over a year now and I've had no problems. My parents liked the way I looked so they wanted to buy one for their house so I bought them one (it was a larger model) and it never worked very well for them. They said he wasn't as active as mine. So I decided to buy them one last Christmas just like mine. I knew these things were random, so I gave myself plenty of time to test and replace when needed. My third purchase (first attempt at a Christmas present) failed. The base of the unit was bent as it is made of very thin metal and had obviously been mishandled at some point during shipping or storage and the bulb itself was broken. I decided to send it back and try again. My fourth purchase (second attempt at a Christmas present) was also a failure because it never showed up. I think I received an email saying it was damaged in shipping or something and will be returned to the warehouse. Of course, that's not exactly what the seller can help with here, but I take note of it anyway. My fourth purchase (third attempt at a Christmas present) was perfect. The lamp arrived in perfect condition, it worked immediately and is very active. I gave this to my parents on Christmas morning and they seem to like it a lot better than the other one. So yes, 2 out of 5 (technically 2 out of 4) worked for me. They're amazing when they work, so my advice is to buy, try right away, and return for a replacement if your first one doesn't work. Plan ahead if buying this as a gift for someone. I would not recommend buying this as a last minute gift as there is a very real chance you will receive a non-working or damaged device.
