Review on 🐠 Eheim Pro 4 Plus 250 Canister Filter for Aquariums up to 65 Gallons by Alicia Lynch

I installed this in my 30 gallon saltwater aquarium with about 60 corals. It worked so well! The process is excellent. I like the pre-filter. In a reef aquarium I like to remove the filter thread twice a week. This design greatly simplifies the process of removing, cleaning and replacing the pre-filter without having to remove everything in the filter itself. I clean the entire filter once a week. Most people don't need to do this weekly, but I recommend it when used in a reef system. The filter comes with this plastic filler on the bottom, which is meant to be used as a mechanical filter and, I think, biological to some extent. I discarded this stuff and added a filter pad to the medium to fine bottom bowl and a 100 micron pad on top. It is thrown away and replaced every week. The included biological medium for the second tray is really good, but I used a Seachem matrix instead - just my preference. I also add charcoal, some Fosgard, and Purigen in separate little bags to the first tray, which I replace each week. It seems to be doing a good job of keeping the water in my aquarium clean. I was hesitant to add a canister filter to my system but love the added mechanical and biological filtration. I also think of it as a reactor for my charcoal and fosguard as the water flows through it at high speed. If you clean this filter frequently (preferably with a pre-filter) it will be a great addition to your reef system. I also use a protein skimmer in my system. Also, I never get microbubbles from it. Of course, the air has to get out when starting or flushing, but after that it works without micro-bubbles. Great addition to my aquarium!
