The paste should be used in small quantities. Less than half a tube at a time and then spread thoroughly. No matter how strange it may sound, it is better to do this with your finger, and not with a spatula / brush. Be sensible, don't look at reviews where people pour out the whole tube at once, and write that after that they have too liquid/spill on other parts of the PC.
