Review on Mikrotik RBwAPR 2ND R11E LTE MikroTik WAP by Chris Kaul

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works with AT&T, reliable rural internet, power supply seems quite cranky

My mom has a nice house but lives in the middle of nowhere with almost no cell service or ISP. We used it mounted near the top of a lightning-proof 40-foot pole, itself perched on a hilltop -- almost exactly 300 feet of total cable -- to bring stable internet to their home. With the standard R11e LTE US we usually get 5-10Mbps from an AT&T tower on band 2 almost 8 miles away, but some days we get 20Mbps. For about a year now months it is stable. The only problem was that the standard power supplies were not very reliable. We literally stopped running two PSUs for no apparent reason. Luckily, they work great with Ubiquiti's 24V passive PoE injectors, which I have in abundance since I live off the network. Apart from the necessary replacement of the PoE injector, we are very satisfied. It doesn't bring LTE directly into her house itself, but at least she now has a usable connection that offers internet and great WiFi calling for those of us with phones that support it. We plan to eventually upgrade the modem to a Sierra Wireless MC7455 once RouterOS officially supports it or improves LTE performance and reception.

Pros
  • Easy to Use
Cons
  • Vulgarity
