They cannot be combined with each other. The colors are very saturated, so you can't apply layer by layer with a pen. I think to use them properly you should partially spread the color with a feather pen/water or apply a layer of water on the paper. Given how expensive watercolor paper can be, this is not an ideal situation for me. I would like to return it, but the return period has already expired for me. I suppose this works best for people looking for very rich colors or solid colors for handwritten lettering. The brush gives a nice dry brush texture when clicked. But then again, I was hoping to build up the layers without staining the entire bottled water, so I guess this just isn't meant for what I was trying to achieve.
