For those new to Raspberry Pi or Linux, this is the best way. Having worked in IT for 21 years in a Windows environment, I wanted to learn Linux and was fascinated by the Raspberry Pi's GPIO interface. As an electronics hobbyist, many years ago I wanted to learn how to interact with external components and systems. I absolutely fell in love with both my Raspberry Pi and Linux. I also used my Raspberry Pi to learn Python. Using this Pi and a 6TB external hard drive, I set up an FTP server as a backup device for my home network video recorder. I've used Python to write a script to clean up the oldest files when the drive is almost full, and it emails hourly statistics on disk usage, file counts, and free space. I love my Raspberry Pi so much I bought another one within a week. This CanaKit made it easy to get started! Everything you need is right in the box. The only other item I bought was an $8 HDMI to VGA video adapter with a standard Revain monitor. The instructions that come with the kit, as well as information from their website, will get most users started easily.
