Review on πŸ’» PNY Quadro P400 Graphics Card by Bill Wasson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works with Ubuntu 20.04 and Nvida driver 440.64

I bought this card (VCQP400-PB) to replace a dead AMD V7900. I'm using it on a Dell T5500 workstation with 3 monitors, two in landscape and one in portrait. All three monitors are connected with DisplayPort cables. The card is small so I had to use the larger bracket that came with it to mount it. The map is small in length and height. The card has low power consumption and does not require an additional 6/8-pin power cable. The card supports 3 monitors at the same time. In addition, three miniDP-DP adapters were included with the card, although these are not shown in the V1. As of this writing, only the images for the V2 version show the adapters. I'd rather not use adapters, but I'd have to buy a much more expensive card to get standard DisplayPort connectors. The minijacks snap into place on the back, so barring the reliability issues associated with many connections, I expect them to work well. The only problem I had with installing it was getting the portrait monitor to work. The Ubuntu display tweak tool just doesn't work with a portrait monitor. He either turned off the monitor or left it in landscape mode. I solved the problem using Nvidia X Server Settings Tool. I'm not a gamer, so I can't comment on performance, but playback in Kdenlive (non-linear video editor) was smoother than the AMD card. HTML5 rendering in browsers also seems to be slightly faster. Revain was the supplier. No problems with delivery and packaging.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • No performance
