I believe the main reason is the residual dust that this product emits in the water. Out of habit I don't do a weekly water change in my tank as the only downside in a fish only tank is the rise in nitrate levels which isn't too bad for most fish/inverts so the dust from this product will stay. several weeks in the tank and over time cause the problems mentioned above. Every time we took a coral beauty out and put it in the sump of a reef tank that had REALLY frequent water changes, the lateral line disease would go away. It reappears when brought back to the Pure Fish Tank. I have found that if I change the water more frequently than usual after replacing this filter media, the dust problem goes away and the product does what I need it to do (get rid of the algae). This is a good product, just make sure you change the water within a week if you still don't, and then maybe a week after that. replace it again. Since then the coral beauty has been fine and the fox face has settled in and seems much more comfortable in the tank than I was as described. If you are used to doing weekly water changes, this is not a problem at all.
