Review on Thetford Corp Porta Potti 92306 White: Portable Toilet Solution for Outdoor Comfort by John Warren

On a recent long 3 week trip, this Porta Potti was the MVP in my custom built van. I had never owned or used a chemical porta potti before so it was a whole new experience. This special battery operated conditioner works very well and is easy to clean. A few tips/notes: The floor mount, sold separately, is a must if you expect it to be fixed to the floor. There is no other way to secure it. In addition, the mounting base allows for very easy installation and removal of the toilet for emptying and cleaning. This toilet is almost the same height as a standard comfort-height American toilet. In the van, with its low ceiling, that was almost a problem. The TP holder will not fit US size TP reels. By the way (as with all chemical systems) you need a special TP. Just a minor issue as I wasn't planning on using it anyway. - Read the instructions before you need to set it up. Instructions are given in 20 different languages and English is not the first, second, third or even tenth language. Allow time to read brief instructions. 10 minutes before use is not the time to play word to picture matching. The chemical instructions are confusing because most of them are expressed in terms of 40-gallon built-in wheeled toilets when it's just a few gallons. Don't let that confuse you. I just followed the chemical instructions as if I were using a large built-in toilet on wheels. There should be two chemicals in there: one for the holding tank, which breaks down solids into liquids (hence the term "chemical toilet"), and one to fill with water to keep the bowl clean. I have never found any chemicals for flooding - The manufacturer recommends using specific cleaning products which I cannot find. It seems very important not to use regular bathroom cleaners as they can damage toilet seals and kill waste-destroying bacteria. That's why I use very mild detergents for the time being. Read the instructions before filling and using. The manufacturer has set specific limits on the amount of waste and fill water a toilet can have when it's in motion (like in my van when traveling). I did not read this part and exceeded the general limits. Even when driving on rough country roads I had no problems (so-called leaks). But there must be a good reason for the warning. Overall - I was hesitant to add a toilet to my van. I did and am very happy with it. Now I have access to a whole new world of back roads, back roads and campgrounds.
