Review on 20X8-8 TerraGrips Tire Chains - ST90001 by Mike Shah

I picked up a set of 20x10x8 Terragrips for the 2014-2015 winter. This year the snow didn't stick around long for each occurrence. However, there were 3 hits of the wetter snow (no more than 6-ish inches at a time) that I used the grips installed on my turf tires on a lawn tractor. I was pushing the snow on a paved, rough-finish, asphalt driveway with both flat and slight grade conditions. The snow blade installed was part of the consideration for both up and down slope spot as opposed to a front-end snow thrower. I had also installed wheel weights to each rear tire (in addition to my girth plumped on top of things). :-)Pros: The grip material is a plus when keeping surface damage and marking in mind. I don't own the driveway and it's in poor enough condition already so I didn't want to rough it up any further. Did it matter when everything was frozen anyway? I had more wheel spin so did that add to the scuff situation anyway? I came away with no marks, ruts, or scrapes this round, so I'll give at least partial credit.Cons: However, I had many spots where I was getting wheel spin both on concrete entrance and sidewalk areas as well as the asphalt. I wouldn't have encountered nearly that much with chains (previous experiences).The hardware sold to me was NOT the same as shown on the website for the fastener clasp. My fastener was a single piece of steel with a bent hook on each end. (See picture). The website here and on the manufacture's page show a clam-shell type clasp. I don't know if this made installation harder. I had to use hooked bungee cords for leverage and tugging during installation and it still wasn't easy. So did I really get the product I ordered and what they are marketing? No. Impact at this point? TBDWith the best fit possible and installing the proper product for my application, there was still a large EXPOSED tire surface area that did not have coverage. I'll include a picture. Things did not loosen up during use and I couldn't snug it up for a better fit once it broke in. What you see is what I got.I still believe this product is over-priced compared to other products and options out there. Chain sets with more coverage (more cross bands, or even different pattern) are available for less.I have not tried these out on soft ground (wet grass or mud) conditions yet. Overall, I would say I'm not completely satisfied and hoped for more, but I would keep this product as an option only for some surfaces and apps (winter not being a best case).UPDATE 04/26/2015: Used these about a week ago after the rains had softened the ground up, ponded water in some places. I had put the mower deck back on the tractor so now I had a few occasions where the inner chain side was ticking against the deck. The chains had loosed up a bit but I don't think I could have snugged them down one more link. I do have some rubber tightener rings that I purchased at the same time and did not use, but I chose not to install them now. For the most part, I did not tear up any ground and I didn't slip when trying to pull my aerator. I got stuck in a few tight turns where the chain was catching on the attachment tongue, but that can happen on any tight turn. So for grass riding it was ok on softer ground. Definitely a different ride than on the slippery icy driveway.
