Review on πŸ“ Precision Digital Micrometer Caliper Tool for Accurate Measurements by Adam Krueger

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It's accurate but has a rough finish. Excellent value for money and quality.

I already have a quality Mitutoyo caliper that I use on a daily basis, but the caliper has problems ie the rack for the gauge face can go through during normal shop use Abrasive grain and metal shavings will be damaged and there is no way to preset the measurement and zero the instrument. These problems are solved with a digital caliper. GENERAL: The first thing that struck me was that the surface finish on the Tengyes caliper was nowhere near the same as the surface finish on my Mitutoyo caliper. Critical surfaces (inner brake caliper blades, etc.) are carefully ground and polished by Mitutoyo. The Tengye's critical surfaces are adequate, but lack the fine finish of the Mitutoyo. The Tengyes' gliding action was "sticky" and the gliding surfaces appeared to be coated with a light coating of some sort of waxy substance. I tried cleaning it with acetone but it dried too quickly leaving wax. Cleaned well with WD-40. There was a definite improvement after cleaning, but nowhere was the gliding action on the Tengyes as smooth as on the Mitutoyo. ACCURACY: I tested the accuracy of Mitutoyo and Tengyes calipers on a set of Class B calibration blocks that I use in my shop. . Both calipers were absolutely accurate on several single gauge blocks and gauge block packages. REVIEW: While the finish of the Tengyes caliper is a little rough (compared to the much more expensive Mitutoyo), the accuracy of the Tengyes caliper is more than adequate for my needs. This is excellent value for money. UPDATE: I just discovered that the Tengyes digital caliper not only displays metric and decimal inches, but also displays measurements in fractional inches. For example, 4.78 mm can also be displayed as 0.1875 inch or 3/16 inch. A pleasant surprise! Saves me looking up my fractional inch conversion charts.
