I installed this product on a 2-3 year old HP PC with Windows 8.1. I bought it because everything is USB these days and MANY too many devices either don't work or don't work properly when connected to a multiport USB hub. A notable example is my TomTom GPS device, which needs to be connected to get a map and other updates. When I first opened my HP I saw that I had 3 free PCI Express slots and that they were numbered. For the installation, I chose slot number 2 because it has an easily removable back cover. #1 and #3 have plates that must be removed by brute force (by bending the metal until it breaks). which I wanted to avoid. I have also visited the SABRENT website and downloaded the product software in case the drivers are newer than the installation disk that came with the unit. After installing and starting the PC, Windows 8.1 would not start. I erased the device and wrote to Sabrent quite late at night. Got an answer almost immediately! An anonymous reply advised me to try slot #1. After removing the metal cover from the back of the slot, I installed the device and then the downloaded software and found that everything worked properly, including my new USB ports! Anyone who has read any of my tech reviews KNOW I value customer service very much. I believe companies should retain the loyalty and support of the people who buy their products. Without these customers there would be no company. I'm VERY upset that companies like Apple charge for answers after a minimum customer support term! Sabrent simply answered my question, much quicker than I expected! You didn't ask when I bought the device. How old is it or its serial number. You just answered. This is a company it SHOULD be.** * *Tip for prospective buyers: Before you buy, look inside your PC and make sure you have free slots. Older PCs have a different slot type. If you don't understand this question, ask someone who does. You can avoid buying the wrong item.
