Killed everything connected to it!

Full disclosure, I bought this from Fry. I connected it to the PCI connector and then connected the Molex connector. Then I turned on the computer and used it to control the mouse and flash drive I had to work with. This caused the mouse and USB stick to short out. So I contacted Sabrent support. Sabrent told me it was a problem with my motherboard. I quickly sent the card back and ordered it from Startech on Revain https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HJZEA2S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UT…

Maybe you need the right drivers.

I purchased this card elsewhere and found that the software provided on the CD and website does not work with this card. I found the correct updated drivers on the Via website. The correct driver for the card is called VIA_XHCI_Driver_V4.90A_AP. After installing the appropriate drivers on my Win 7 system, the card works great! ---- Edit the VIA URL I mentioned: http://www.via-labs.com/driver.php

Pros
  • Great Price
Cons
  • Compatibility

Difficult to install but works at least 4x USB 2.0

After installing the card you need to install the drivers which comes on a CD in zipped format. Extract the files to a folder, open explorer, locate the folder and run setup.exe. The installation takes so long that you think the process is stuck. There are no clear instructions in the box that you must do this and there is no user manual on the CD, although the application in the box will direct you to the user manual. Disappointing with internals

Installed card and drivers on my Windows 7 x64 system. The card worked but I got a blue screen from the driver every time I turned off the computer. I tried to update the driver but the computer got locked. I tried a few other "tricks" to fix the problem, but they didn't work either. I ended up tossing the card in the recycle bin and restoring a previous Windows backup.

Pros
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • Big and bulky

It works! Internal components

I hesitated to buy PCI Express cards at such a low price. I needed to upgrade my old computer which was collecting dust on the case and not inside. Well this little one has served my external hard drive well and made my homework and projects a joy.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Legacy model

A little setup issue, but now it works great!

I installed this product on a 2-3 year old HP PC with Windows 8.1. I bought it because everything is USB these days and MANY too many devices either don't work or don't work properly when connected to a multiport USB hub. A notable example is my TomTom GPS device, which needs to be connected to get a map and other updates. When I first opened my HP I saw that I had 3 free PCI Express slots and that they were numbered. For the installation, I chose slot number 2 because it has an easily…
