Pros: - Easy instructions - Perfect alignment - Excellent clarity - Fingerprint scanner works flawlessly - Dust is barely noticeable - Feels slick Cons: - Rubbery feel that catches on a nail There are a couple of things I look for screen protectors. It's most obvious when it protects the screen. Of course, I didn't drop my phone to check it, and I don't intend to. However, it's easy to take a logical leap when you assume that a transparent protective film that is stuck over the glass is intended to protect the glass from surface scratches and minor bumps. If the glass breaks, at least no shards will come loose and start cutting your fingers. Other important things are clarity, consistency and ease of use. The video guide is pretty simple. There is no need to watch it more than once. There is an update; They're no longer a block of foam, they just cling to the foam like the ones you put under rugs so they don't slide on hardwood. The guide you place on the USB-C connector ensures perfect alignment. The only issue I had was dust getting caught between the freshly cleaned screen and the underside of the removed screen protector. Which then carried over to the screen when I made the very first pass to apply the top half of the screen protector to my screen. Spotting this error right away, I cleaned the screen again using a small amount of tape to remove any debris from the bottom half. I have always used glass screen protectors on my phones since my Samsung Galaxy S2. I liked the transparency and smoothness of the glass. Over time the oleophobic coating will wear off but I still liked it. The problem with the LG Velvet is the edge curvature, and all the screen protectors I've seen and read only have adhesive on the outer edge. Which makes absolutely no sense, especially since the fingerprint reader is on the glass and the presence of a layer of air separating the glass layers reduces its usability. So I opted for this clear screen protector instead. To my surprise, the clarity is as good as the protective glass. The oleophobic coating seems about as good/bad as many glass screen protectors, so don't worry too much. Part of me hopes the film wears off quickly, so I have an excuse to put on the second of the three films included. However, I am very satisfied with my first attempt. No bubbles, perfect alignment, no gap issues in the phone case I bought (Ghostek Covert4). Even the tiny dust particles that make it to the top half of my screen are barely noticeable. My only concern is probably the soft feel of the screen protector. If I touch it briefly with my fingernail, it deforms. In this case, the dimple becomes a place where I can be scratched and "caughtβ when wiping. This isn't really a problem as it "heals itself" within a few seconds. Just something to be aware of.
