This was purchased because we have an old video projector that has no audio output and our new Blu-ray player has no analog audio output. Luckily it has an optical output. Our conclusions are: 1) The sound quality of this device is better than any other device we have owned before. It is connected to a stereo amplifier and two large 3-way floorstanding speakers with 15" woofers. High frequencies are clear and perfect; the bass makes the wall tremble when we turn it on. Very pleasantly surprised by the high sound quality! Dialog clarity and frequency response sound better than the local movie theater!2) Another unexpected benefit: our video projector used to have a processing lag that caused the image to lag the sound by a split second (it seems to be between 50 and 100 milliseconds (which some people may notice and some people may not.) However, this audio device adds a tiny processing delay to the audio, which means the picture and sound are now perfectly in sync again! The effect is just perfect! Overall, it's amazing that this little device solved the problem and also improved the sound quality compared to what we had before, notice how on which reviewers have noted, the tiny plastic caps on the optical cable. The optical cable can only be connected if you carefully remove these protective caps.
