I recently lost some weight and have gone from XL to L in tracksuits, pajamas and swim trunks, I wear 36" Levi's. I have several XL pajama bottoms and ordered three of them in a large size. They are huge, much wider than my other XL brands. I have at least 6 inches more around my waist and my legs are way too big. I can extend the side seam 5 inches from the hips. Order one size smaller.
