I ordered this product thinking it would be mainly for looks with some functionality. I could see that the base looked basically the same as the other back scratchers, only it had a different cat head. I really love cats so I thought it would be fun to get them. It turns out this is more than just entertaining the cat's paw. It's big and sturdy, the base is actually slightly larger, thicker and stronger than the standard rake most people have (see image for a rough size comparison). It also works great on my bare skin. The rake goes well through clothing but is a little rough on the skin. I can apply it directly to my skin and it works without irritating it too much. I know you think differently when you look at a head on a scratching post. But the tips of the claws are actually slightly rounded, making them feel much better next to the skin than a rake. It allows me to press a little harder on the skin, scratch a little more without damaging the skin, and I get deeper relief from the itch as a result.
