I saw the mixed reviews on this product and bought it anyway. Heck, they're pretty cheap and my apartment doesn't have emergency lights, so we needed something for a short while when the power went out. First I opened the backpack and saw the contents in the dark. I understand why some people might have trouble with this. I was surprised that they came in an opaque plastic bag rather than a stronger container that would have protected them. When we opened the bag, one of the (blue) sticks lit up faintly. Then I activated it and noticed that it wasn't the glowing blue I was expecting, but was emitting a pale blue color like the dagger from The Lord of the Rings. This is to be expected as it was partially activated from the factory, we activated several others of different colors. Then we got to the rest of the bag. Next we popped an orange. It glowed with the expected brightness, which wasn't impressive (since Orange is the dullest of the glowstick colors), but still significantly brighter than Odd. After that we activated pink, yellow, blue and green. They also performed as expected, with pink being noticeably brighter than orange, blue brighter than pink, yellow brighter than blue, and green being the brightest of the group. Green was able to light our way and camp unaided. At night we actually had to clean everything up so we could sleep. It was fairly bright. Lifespan was also as expected, glowing brightly for the first 12 hours or so and retaining some afterglow for the next 24 hours. Zippers for our tent, our keys and similar items you want to find in the dark. All in all I will buy them again when they run out but will check the contents upon delivery to make sure there isn't too much junk inside.
