The product description says "With a lifting capacity of up to 300lbs / 135kg". I felt safe from something like 100 pounds. I was wrong. It didn't break anything, but as it gained weight, the mechanism kept slipping and the object I was trying to lift didn't move. I'm partly to blame for that. I was thrilled when I found this and couldn't read the other reviews. I managed to lift a 30 lb object but it wouldn't lift an end of the couch that I can lift with my hand. The grip shrinks and nothing happens. We have to learn this lesson from time to time, read the reviews.
