Review on Enhanced Kidde Nighthawk Carbon Monoxide Detector: AC-Plug-In with Battery Backup and Digital Display by Eric Temple

I truly believe this product saved our lives. Our fireplace caught fire on a cold day. It heated up our house so much that the stove was off most of the day. When we went to bed and the fire went out, the stove was lit again. We didn't notice that the extractor hood was not up to standard (not high enough on the sloping roof). We now suspect that cold air has settled in the furnace exhaust gas. When the furnace started up again, the cold air prevented the CO2 from escaping and pushed it back into our boiler room. This alarm clock rang in the middle of the night and woke me up. My husband thought it was just a battery - and suggested I just take the battery out and find out in the morning. Luckily, I read the alarm's digital display and found that it was NOT a battery issue. Stupidly, I took the alarm down to the basement boiler room (CO2 could have killed me) and watched the numbers mount. I knew right away that we had to open the windows/doors and get out. Now I have one on each floor of the house. Never, EVER, pay attention when you hear this alarm. The digital display definitely confirmed there was a problem and I liked that I could unplug it from the wall and walk around the house and watch the display change. And yes, we were quickly convinced that it was all code. - but I will never be without the security that this detector gives me.
