The instructions only mentioned closed zippers - like a pocket zipper on a jacket (or fly). The front zipper on the jacket is an open zipper. The cheapest jacket repair I could find was $90. But I was able to figure out how to fix my favorite $150 jacket with this kit. I am very pleased! The first thing you need to do is examine your existing zipper puller and see if it has a number. This can help you identify the correct slider to replace. Possibly because some zips don't have numbers and some numbered zips don't follow the usual numbering standard. In most cases, the number represents the width of the open zipper in mm. So the designation 4 for a 4 mm zipper, 5 for a 5 mm zipper. For a zipper that opens at the bottom, first check that the slider slips and slides freely on the open side of the zipper, if not, there is no point in wasting time on that zipper - try another zipper. With a closed zip all you have to do is unzip as shown in the instructions and hope you have the correct zip. Don't bother squeezing the stopper onto the zipper fabric until you're sure the zipper will work. Generally, if the zipper does not slide at all, the zipper is too small. If the zipper slides but the teeth don't engage, the zipper is too wide. This particular set has a wide range of zips which should cover most occasions. Much luck!
