Worth a try.: Exterior Care

I bought this for a 2010 Chrysler Sebring Convertible. The vacuum cleaned some tree sap and dirt from the cloth upper. I would recommend this product. I used the cleaner as directed and let it dry completely. Then I applied two layers of protective fabric and let it dry for 24 hours. This is where I started to get a little disappointed with the product. It wasn't a very rainy week. So I poured a small amount of water over it, expecting it to fizz as advertised. The sides seemed to drain water well. However, the flatter surfaces at the top didn't seem to let much water through. I even tried blowing or shaking water off the surface like the wind can do when riding on the road, but the water seemed to seep in rather than leave the surface. I don't claim to know the proprietary ingredients in this product, but it looks, smells, and feels just like regular tent sealant found at sporting goods stores. However, I hope that it offers more UV protection than comparable products. It can be very good. Therefore, I do not recommend any product that is not suitable for fabric convertible roofs. Knowing it was an old car with the original top, I decided to try a few more coats of tread before giving up. When I pulled the bottle out again a few days later, the atomizer was about half full and wouldn't spray the fine mist needed for even coverage. I might not blame the manufacturer for this issue, but a warning to flush the atomizer would be nice. So I used the whole bottle to maybe get moderate protection for this car. A newer car with factory profile on the soft top may give better results. If you have a convertible top that needs resealing or reprofiling I would still say this kit is worth trying. I think I'll try the Rag Top brand next time, but there aren't many products on the market for this purpose. Also, in my personal experience, local auto parts stores don't have anything to service convertible tops.
