Apple Pencil won't charge at all

I don't know how people charge their Apple Pencil, there must be some magic because I couldn't get it to charge at all, the stuff between the iPad and the Apple Pencil is not well designed to charge the Apple Pencil, so in most cases this part is removed or made very thin.
