As it was packaged in a ziplock bag with no markings it is difficult to verify that it is 304 stainless steel. The item itself is a rough piece of metal. Every edge is unfinished and definitely rough. You will definitely need to file down each edge to smooth them out. Where the round ends of the handle come into contact with the metal, the weld is not complete, only from above. So when washing, water can get into the cavity of the handle itself. Fortunately, the flat part to be broken is actually flat and does not deform. I like that the handle (although not fully welded) is not bolted like other options on the market. I can see the handle getting hot if you intend to use it to flatten the bacon, but for my purpose of cracking burgers that's debatable. Three stars because, after all, it's a flat piece of metal that can smash hamburgers. Maybe 5 stars if it was made and actually finished with smooth edges like the final product. Instead, the raw metal appears to have been bent and welded and then boxed.
