It is very important that the back can recover and rest during sleep. I had a hard time finding a good sleeping position that relaxed my lower back and relieved tension. Buying this pillow was an experiment that worked. I sleep on my back with a pillow under my knees. I'm no expert, but the pillow seems to help distribute some of the weight that's normally on the lower back to the knees, gently stretching and relieving the lower back. Now I wake up with no back pain and I feel like she has a chance to recover. I'm 5ft 9in, 235lbs and the regular size was too small to get the job done. Grab this one (jumbo) if you're height like me and have a similar problem. The pillow will not flatten out. stiff compared to the average pillow but not uncomfortable for my purposes. I've seen other reviewers remove stars because the outer lining material wasn't perfect. I disagree with that as a pillowcase should be used anyway.
