My cat lays on it before using it but if she were a more playful kitty she might knock it over. This item is more like a cat scratch mat pinned to a curved board, the mat itself is crooked on a thin board, but if my cat doesn't mind, neither will I. I love that I can mount it anywhere, usually with a wall on one side to keep it stable and out of the way. No maintenance, no hardware, just take it out of the plastic and put it back in. It can be easily leaned against a sofa or chair to avoid improper scratches. The cat seems to like the angle, has several scratching options around the house and seems to prefer these over the shallower options.
