If your child is interested in hunting from an early age, then this toy is just great. I couldn't stop playing with him when he arrived and I'm 39 years old. There were no instructions but it was easy to understand. What I love about it is that it teaches your child to blow in a steady stream as if they have to play an instrument or use a butterfly device to strengthen their lungs, but it's just plain fun. Look, you're not going to take him into the woods to hunt. But this thing is amazing. We had a lot of fun scaring our pets out of the blue with random animal calls. I also add that if your 5 year old runs and blows for an hour, your older kids (mine are 15 and 19) will probably say things like "Mom, why did you buy that", "Mom is hiding that somewhere" , "Mom, we can just be quiet for five minutes," real parents know that's fun in itself. Any child who loves animal sounds will love this toy. I definitely replaced the tiny thin strap with a lace one. Note that this is a noisy toy.
