Review on ๐ŸŽฎ Xbox 360 Armored Core V by Jason Carranza

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not bad but with some flaws

Old but good but not excellent. It's not as strategic as its PS2 counterparts, but still offers a wide range of mech customization options and plenty of weapons and parts for you to equip. Combat can be either fast or slow depending on your mech setup, but striving for speed over strength is absolutely the way to go. Yes, this is a relatively simple robot destruction game that's all about action using your acceleration properly and using all your ammo as fast as possible. Part of the problem with this game is its weird consistency issues. Mission difficulties are everywhere, with the latter missions being much easier than many of the early ones (which are very difficult at times). Many of the different parts are also poorly balanced, making some of them completely useless without learning their steep learning curve. Even simpler weapons like sniper rifles are terrible to use in most of the game's story missions, as you have to constantly dodge, which isn't quite possible when you're standing with a sniper rifle. Stick to short to medium range weapons and you'll be fine. The story is pretty bad. It's simple, but strangely confusing at the same time. The game offers a lot of information about what's going on without giving you any important information about the plot. Of course we know A and B happened, but what caused them? It's such a forgotten story in a fun, incoherent game. This game came out a while ago, so its online features that were a big part of the game stopped working a long time ago. Every time you log into the game you will be told exactly that, so don't expect anything to work online. I know this isn't exactly an enthusiastic review, but it's fun nonetheless. Consistency issues aside, the combat is quite fun. You still have to plan your moves, especially in the later stages of the game, and the battles get very intense. The bosses aren't exactly run-of-the-mill and the story missions are of good length (the side missions are very short, often under a minute). If you fail a more difficult mission, you feel like you've learned something, so for the most part it's not TOO disappointing. From Software appears to be working on another Armored Core game, and it's worth checking out beforehand.
