When I was young I made a thousand outriggers the old fashioned way with a hammer and punch, but of the two bikes in my garage only one race came out this way. A good review led me to this tool, so I'll return the favor. A 1997 Kawasaki Concours and a 1990 Honda PC800.PC800 bearing failed because it was an old ball bearing with a decent shoulder only in the 'reverse' part of the lower stem so it was difficult to hit. Concours needed a little more fiddling. . I've seen many reviewers truncate a portion, but I didn't have to. Expand the tool as much as you can, then wiggle it and expand it even more. Make sure it is properly seated in the hole, then try wiggling and re-tightening with a standard short 12mm wrench. Find the largest socket that can slide off the stem (I have a 27mm deep HF) and attach the longest sacrificial extension. A little touch to make sure the tool is right on the edge (I checked the tool for tightness twice but it was on the limit). Three hits with a 2# hammer on the bottom (best angle of rotation) and 5 on the top. Ready! I could literally just be happier if I wasn't wasting my time the old fashioned way. The tool is great!
