Contrary to some misinformation on the internet, they work with USB sticks without using an active USB hub. There are various YouTube articles and videos stating that USB flash drives consume too much power and that is why you should use a powered USB hub in addition to this device. Not true as I used this with a Sandisk USB 3.0 128GB flash drive to watch movies on a treadmill. That works great. I am using a refurbished 7th generation iPad.
