Each of these inserts has 6 cascading compartments to avoid bulkiness - a real plus as I use 2 of them (1 for cards, 1 for photos). Because you can easily slip 2 credit/insurance/ID cards into each slot, these inserts hold 12 cards. Cards slide in from the top, the slots cascade in a row, and a more durable plastic flap closes all 6 slots, so your earbuds are pretty well protected from accidental falls. However, if you have a specific card that you need to draw frequently and quickly, it might be better to put it in a separate compartment; because until the plastic relaxes a little, 2 cards need an extra pull/push moment to take one card off - it's not difficult (I have long nails and I definitely don't make anything I think will break off!), a a little more effort.
