Review on Detroit Grooming Co. Traverse City Beard Butter - Cherry Tobacco Scented Men's Beard Balm (2oz) - All-Natural Ingredients and Essential Oils to Condition, Heal, and Promote Soft, Thick Beard Growth by Barbara Bailey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

If you're looking for that tobacco smell, look elsewhere

Pros: The 2 ounce container is much larger than I expected. My beard is medium (4 inches below my chin) and this container would easily last me over a month with daily use. The oil also emulsifies much more easily than most balms I've used, meaning it's easier to apply, and if skincare is more of a necessity than a passion for you, that means something. The staying power seems pretty solid too. Cons: I can't pinpoint the flavor, but I don't smell anything remotely reminiscent of cherry or tobacco. Think "unique artificial fruit flavor with subtle hints of plasticine." It's not the worst beard product I've ever sniffed at, but it's definitely not what I expected. My wife doesn't like it and that's really the most important thing for me. I've had a beard for 7 years now and the first tobacco scented product I tried smelled like your grandfather's pipe in the most amazing way. This company apparently disappeared shortly after I bought them and I've been constantly looking for a similar tobacco flavor ever since. I was hoping that this would become my new hobby, but unfortunately it will be done one day. Maybe one day I'll try their vanilla and tobacco scent. Note: There was also a small indentation on the surface of the oil, about the size of a finger. This is my first butter, maybe for some reason the contents of the jars aren't flat, but I can't stop imagining someone in the warehouse filling an order, opening a jar and taking a small sample for themselves. . And it's gross, but most likely it's Revane's fault, not Detroit grooming.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
