I had no idea trailer heaters required regular replacement of these aluminum anodes until a friend told me about it. My caravan is already five years old and the native anode was still in the heater. When I took out the old anode to put this new one in, I almost couldn't get it out. It partially disintegrated during operation. The only problem with these anodes is the complexity of the installation. The round tip that returns to the heater is long enough and heavy enough that it takes a bit of manual dexterity and a wrench to keep it horizontal while screwing it in. Finally, I put the hex head in the hex socket and screwed it in with a ratchet wrench. Be sure to put tape on the threads before screwing in the device to prevent water from leaking around the threads.
