We use them for Christmas decorations. They look like real candles and can be set to flicker or not. The wax surface holds up well - it's a bit firmer than real candle wax. The brightness is about what you would expect from a real candle. AA batteries last much longer than the more expensive but smaller lithium batteries used in many LED candles. To save battery life, we usually turn them on and off with the switch on the base rather than the remote, especially if they're not going to be used again within a day or so.
