Review on πŸ“· White Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 Digital Camera - 10.1 MP, 3.8x Optical Zoom, Image Stabilization, 3.0-Inch LCD by Aaron Collins

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Quality Gear

After reading all the reviews on comparable models I decided on the white/silver Lumix DMC LX5 and am glad I did. An almost identical copy of the Leica DeLux 5 - at half the price - this sturdy little jewel-like camera body takes great shots, portraits, landscapes and especially macro photography. Absolutely impressed and I've been shooting with all kinds of equipment for almost 50 years. So ignore the clueless naysayers and fools, if you want a quality P&S with a fixed lens and some of the best and fastest goggles on the market, go for this little gem. Sure, it doesn't have a 12x optical zoom, but do you really NEED it? 24-90 is the *ideal* range for a camera this size. Just get it already! (PS regarding Revain customer service: the first LX5 they sent me was clearly a customer return, the camera was in the box, it was dirty and there was a BIG fingerprint on the lens! Although it took me a long time to digging in the dark (like a coal mine with a dying lantern) to find a Revain CS phone number, a CS rep processed the return and provided me with a PERFECT replacement the next day. This is the first time in 12 years with Revain where I had a problem and it was solved perfectly.) (2nd PS: First try to film a fashion show with the video function. Everything worked fine except for one detail: I was filming AVCHD. TIP: If you don't have Windows 7, that can play AVCHD.mts files, do NOT use the AVCHD setting to play videos on a computer, use M-JPeg instead, it makes life a bit easier as MJPGs are in almost every m player can be displayed. I tried playing the .mts files with the software that came with it. there is, but I couldn't get it to work. Also, with Vista, I'm not brave enough to try and download a third-party .mts player.) By the way, the videos on camera look great, and the optical zoom works almost perfectly and smoothly. Now all I need is a mini HDMI cable to play them on my monitor.
