A cartridge was unusable because of poor toner coverage: The print was very faded and the left edge was smeared across the entire page. The other cartridge looks fine; the time will show. The $30 price tag is fair even for a cartridge - if it lasts - compared to HP's $100 per cartridge. Considering other reports of people getting a good cartridge and a bad cartridge, this may be a clever marketing ploy: buy one for one encourages purchase, but returning just one cartridge is difficult. Most users won't want to return both if that means having to delete the good one they just installed. And the supplier disposes of defective cartridges without disposal costs. Just a thought.
