I bought this because my last cheap assistant stopped working and I couldn't find it until my battery went down to 0. WiFi on this device only allows me to check the battery from my phone. There seems to be no ongoing monitoring and alerting. I would really like to know if my battery is charging without checking it every day. I'd like a way to poll it from my home monitoring server (which polls my AC temps, WiFi connection quality, cable, DSL, and other stuff). As it stands now, the best I can do is verify that the charger is powered on and connected to my network. I think it's better than nothing (GFCI shutdowns, etc.). As for connecting to Wi-Fi, it seems like the only key is to plug it into the mains and then, without waiting, press and hold the connect button until a Wi-Fi setup message appears. Worked like many other IOT devices.
