If you buy the lamp they recommend, the diameter is almost exactly the inside diameter of the base of the metal cage. You MUST make sure that both screws are COMPLETELY flush with the inside of the base. One of my screws was insanely hard and stiff and very difficult to fully open so very little of it was missed. Although it only protruded 1/2 millimeter, it was enough to keep the bulb from getting in. Despite being a big guy with a lot of above average strength, it ended up taking me a bit of work to get this one. The screw is fully open to let the lightbulb through. The other screw was ok. The product itself was delivered quickly, was packaged decently well and looks very nice. The cage moves easily even when fully tightened. I would consider screwing the 3rd screw to the base to keep the cage from moving.
