I have had this car for about three weeks now. Okay, not thrilled, but okay. Dell makes a competent computer, the obvious effort to reduce cost and weight has resulted in the laptop being mostly plastic, but I expected that. I don't understand why Dell continues to use a connector that sticks out 3-4 inches from the block as opposed to Lenovo which is L shaped and doesn't take up space. Because of this, I had to replace the PSU on my 2010 Dell Inspiron. The CD/DVD looks cheap until I've used it, but I'm sure it's fine. only cheap. The device heats up a bit, and you can occasionally hear the fans turning. Ultimately, this will likely shorten the lifespan of the device. By the way, forget about the black folders, the darkest thing they get in dark mode is dark gray. You can dial in the high-contrast optics if you want the letters to be white on a black background, but there are compromises elsewhere. Battery life looks good, but it's brand new. To bypass the requirement to create a Microsoft account to activate Windows, I only pressed the spacebar 2-3 times before getting to the local setup page. So don't create an account unless you really want to. . It takes a while, the little wheel turning for a few minutes each time, but eventually a local login page should appear. I got a Dell registry warning window every time on startup and the only way to get rid of it was to run chkdsk c: /f to fix startup issues. I also had to disable many startup items, especially those related to Microsoft Edge. It was slow for a brand new car; I knew something was wrong. As another reviewer said, you wouldn't have to work that much on a new device like this, but 17 inch laptops don't seem to be in demand these days, new ones are all lightweight, cheap, no DVDs. Drive (other than this Dell I guess) or some sort of laptop/tablet hybrid. I liked the 2016 Lenovo Ideapad, the new ones don't have a DVD drive but I would have no problem buying another if they wanted to give me some, but even at 900.00+ they were all compromised. In the end it was the best option for the best price I could find, with the hard drive space I needed, DVD/CD drive, enough RAM - but it's expensive for what it is. , and like I said I don't love it, just a competent tool and I'll live with that.
