Doors and shutters are strong. Tunnel Bin

Replaces PetSafe in-wall dog doors. I've built several dog doors into walls over the years. I could be obsessive compulsive about things like this, so I was pretty excited when I came across the Endura bi-folding door that was designed to be wall mounted. Pros: The frames are well designed, manufactured and powder coated. The valves feel high quality, close well and should last a while. Fur: The instructions were easy but could have been better. Aligning the inner and outer doors was a pain because the tunnel is complete rubbish. Caulking helps somewhat - I taped it outside and sealed all the inside tunnel seams. I overlapped outer panels so it was possible to add a drip edge and used masking tape around the cutout while hiding behind the frame. I found a great expandable pad (Frost King - E/O 1" x 13ft. Expandable Foam Tape Gasket Tape that came out really clean on the outside with a little sealer. Maybe it's .032 aluminum. Sounds good. Well, it doesn't "T. Aluminum is known for being a great conductor, so it's terrible for insulation - that's partly why we all buy that double door. That crappy thin aluminum was only useful because it was easy to cut for depth With the help of a rubber mallet and pad, when trying to line up the tenons, the first one immediately started snapping in a tight radius.I just left the tabs bent per the instructions but they didn't seem to really tighten. The tunnel creates also a significant step down between the two doors (I'll explain in a moment how I fixed it) When the tunnel is put in two doors it still holds n The thing is solid against construction errors - important to align external doors inside and outside so that the doors do not hang open. Actually it is not described in the manual. I ended up pulling it out again and installing frames on each side of the tunnel to stiffen it. I also took a 3/4 piece of rubber mat and cut out a rectangle to fit in the niche between the two doors for the bottom piece. This helped make the tunnel less cruel and even out the space, and offered the pups something other than cold aluminum to step on. Glue the tunnel in place, check its fit, and then reinforce the sides and bottom. My suggestion to Endura is that the tunnel should be at least .90 aluminum, better yet glass reinforced plastic or a combination material. Then use the notch for the tunnel but not in the corners so the doors stay in the same plane. Also put in a 3/4 size boxing mat cut to width so people can trim it to length (to size). To be a premium door I expect that for the money.
