I have never used a sewing machine and Grandma would be proud to be a seamstress. Threading a needle isn't easy, but they give you a little needle threader that works well. I also learned that depending on the thickness of the material it is better to change the pattern dial and you will have fewer broken threads. It is also better to buy specific threads from the store as they are slightly stronger than advertised. For me, this little machine was perfect for my frayed magazine pouches. I would definitely recommend it as any machine takes patience and practice to get what you are comfortable with.
